W5FI is an amateur radio station located north of Shreveport, LA near a little town called Blanchard. LA. The exact GPS coordinates are 32 degrees, 35 minutes, 21.6 seconds North latitude; and 93 degrees, 51 minutes, and 16.9 seconds West longitude. Like most ham radio stations, this one is capable of communicating with amateur radio operators around the state, nation, and the globe. Different from some, this station is optimized to permit very long distance communications to any part of the world given the right time of day and  correct frequency.  This station is fully licensed by the Federal Communications Commission ( FCC ). I was first licensed in 1959 as a novice class operator at the ripe young age of about 12 years as KN3OWN in Oil City, PA. Within a year or so, I upgraded to a General Class license (K3OWN) and then to the highest class license available: the Amateur Extra Class license. When I moved South, I eventually gave up callsign K3OWN, and became W5VSZ for about 15 years which was located in Hattiesburg, MS. Then about 10 years ago, I made one final change in callsigns to W5FI, which is my current and last callsign. The move to Shreveport occurred in the summer and fall of 2003

There are links on this page to a number of  sub areas. There is a section here to lead you to information about the station radio equipment (Station), a link which leads to current antennas and towers (Antennas), a section leading to information about long haul communication (DXing), a section for past and future DXpeditions (DXpeditions), eventually an on-line log book (Log), and other links that become appropriate.
